Spreading Awareness, Encouraging Action
Solar Power Drive Solar power may finally be reaching a tipping point. Solar power has always been considered expensive, however, the combination of the rising cost of fossil fuels, environmental concerns and technological innovation, has turned the sun into a viable source of power.
The innovations we are seeing today are guaranteeing a market expansion for the future. Today’s solar power technology is becoming cost-competitive with other forms of energy. More companies are getting into the business, so solar power is benefiting from both competition and scale. The solar industry will grow at nearly 30% a year, to reach $71 billion by 2012.
One thing that people often underestimate is the scale of the electric utility business. It will be a huge challenge to manufacture and install new energy infrastructure on every rooftop possible. It also represents a tremendous opportunity for any company that can get the solar power challenge right. Resource: Innovation Fuels Solar Power Drive, by Carolyn Y.
